We are seeking a Wound and Ostomy Nurse (RN) who will be responsible for a variety of functions related to the specialty of wound, ostomy, and continence care. Instruct and supervise wound and ostomy care. Demonstrate proficiency in delivering and supervising care to assigned age-specific patient population (i.e., infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics), and participates in related continuing education.

In this position you will:

  • Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environment, and infection control plans.

  • Provide primary care to patients requiring wound management, ostomy care and instructions and basic wound care intervention related to trauma, surgery, etc. Consult with other primary care givers when necessary.

  • Demonstrate strong, competent teaching skills evidenced through participant program evaluation.

  • Provide education materials to patients, nursing staff, and physicians.

  • Provide hospital and wound care management orientation to new employees.

  • Participate in nursing skills lab instructing all staff in wound and ostomy care.

  • Consult with physicians and staff for management of patients with ostomies, fistulas, tubes, drains, wounds, burns, pressure ulcers, incontinence and related skin problems.

  • Demonstrate specific care to patient based on knowledge of correct prosthetic ostomy equipment and related products.

  • Monitor medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.

  • Help patient/caregiver obtain equipment, supplies, and services from community resources.

  • Provide direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consult with other specialists as required and adjust nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

  • Maintain current, accurate documentation in the client’s medical record.

  • Communicate with the physician and other community health related persons, as appropriate, in order to obtain physician’s orders, coordinate the plan of care, and report any changes in the patient’s condition to the physician as needed.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy, and express interest in their progress.

  • Assist patients and caregivers to understand, accept, and follow medical recommendations.

  • Implement and adhere to policies which ensure patient confidentiality.

  • Attend meetings as required.

  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service education, and workshops.

  • The following accountabilities may be reassigned:

  • Provide care to home care and hospice patients in a manner that considers safety, comfort, and a therapeutic environment.


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association

  • Wound Care Certification Nurse (WCCN) Certification or Board Certified Wound Ostomy Care Nurse (WOCN) license required. Candidate with validated wound-care experience will be required to obtain WCCN or Board WOCN certification within the first year of hire into this position

  • Current California Licensed Registered Nurse

  • 1 year Experience in medical/surgical nursing and wound care management

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
