We are seeking a Unit Secretary NICU who will attend clerical station and perform clerical and reception duties; requisitions, maintain and order supplies, equipment, and services as directed. Maintain the locked unit using the secure access camera device. Enter admission, discharge and transfer information into the NICU log as required by CCS. Make certain visitors are educated about hand washing when entering the unit. Provide written information to parents on arrival in the NICU (preprinted booklet). Welcome visitors in a positive manner. With direction from Resource Nurse/Charge Nurse/Assistant Nurse Manager: assign rooms and/or directs patients to the appropriate area. The position reports to the Nurse Manager.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies
Demonstrate proficient computer skills and completes order entry as directed by the Charge/Resource Nurse/Staff RN
Perform clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer and death using legible handwriting
Accurately maintain information board with staff assignments, on call physicians, census information, and patient disposition
Obtain and input patient demographics, insurance information into the computer system and prepares preliminary paperwork for the patient’s medical record
Answer incoming telephone calls using proper phone etiquette, take messages, and transfers calls appropriately
Perform courtesy calls for all appointments and follow-up
Communicate with doctor’s offices/as needed for consults and follow up. Clinics/labs to obtain updated prenatal records, lab/ultrasound/consult results
Manage records, prepare charts for admissions, tear down charts and coordinate with HIM for all discharge records
Organize physician call lists and maintain updated binder for call schedule as directed by the unit manager
Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepare related forms. Keep stock and equipment inventories
Respond to call light system
Monitor and control access to unit
Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families/staff in accordance with hospital standards
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and provides privacy for patient
Prioritize work and provides prompt and efficient service
Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings
Attend meetings as required
Required qualifications for this position include:
BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association. NOTE: If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross-CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, this will be accepted until card expiration date
2 years of clerical experience
Computer skills/software: Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, Outlook
Average Keyboard skills
Must be able to maintain 95 percent accuracy for order transcription/entry
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Completion of Medical Terminology Course
Basic Conversational Spanish
