Description:

Providence is calling a Supervisor Core Laboratory Departments and CLS (Full time/Day shift) to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking a Supervisor Core Laboratory Departments and CLS who will provide laboratory services to meet the needs of patients in accordance with accepted standards and practices. The Core Laboratory Technical Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of multidisciplinary sections of the laboratory. Defined sections of the laboratory include: Transfusion Services, Chemistry, Hematology (includes Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and Microbiology).

In this position you will:

  • Implement and/or maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, safety, environmental, and infection control policies

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State and other government agencies rules and regulations relating to laboratory Services. In accordance with JCAHO, CAP, and AABB measures. Ensure readiness for areas of responsibility for accrediting agency inspections

  • Comply with the organizational and departmental specific requirements for infection control, hazardous material and safety. Report identified unsafe conditions immediately to a supervisor or to an appropriate department. Take corrective actions whenever such actions are appropriate and within the individual’s ability

  • Consult with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services

  • Function as a member of the management team in the Laboratory

  • Department and actively participate in the monthly department supervisory meetings

  • Direct, supervise, and coordinate technical functions and activities in any or all divisions of clinical laboratories

  • Participate in department, inter-department and inter-facility projects which help the laboratory achieve its goals of providing service and client support in a cost effective manner

  • Assist the Laboratory Director (or designee) in developing and monitoring section specific QA/Risk Management Program

  • Supervise the day-to-day operation of the assigned departments, ensuring compliance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures

  • Perform personnel’s performance appraisals and personnel counseling with appropriate documentations

  • Provide input for personnel’s performance appraisals and assist with personnel counseling with appropriate documentations

  • Adjust staffing as needed to accomplish adequate coverage. Prioritize all duties and adhere to established Turn Around Times (TAT) for routine, urgent, STAT, timed and batched procedures for all duties assigned

  • Inspect and observe personnel practices and takes appropriate action when violations occur

  • Ensure proper documentation, establishe record system, and maintain all laboratory records, reports, statistics, logs, and files

  • Perform surveys and assist with comparative analyses of work units; may participate in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate

  • Support, consult, and participate with facility and regional QA programs to ensure internal and external regulatory compliance

  • Investigate and resolve pre- and post-analytical problems and service issues as identified on the Specimen Action and/or Quality Assurance

  • Forms. Able to perform complex problem investigation and resolution and provides corrective feedback to staff regarding identified problems. Identifies opportunities for improvement

  • Provide immediate feedback regarding all patient or physician concerns or complaints regarding department functioning or care received. Maintain effective and timely communication with employees regarding performance

  • Compute section costs in cooperation with laboratory manager using budget work sheets, expense and income sheets, and projected equipment needs as pertains to laboratories

  • Determine charges and set up a charging system for services in consultation with lab manager

  • Direct the purchasing/requisitioning of laboratory supplies and equipment

  • Direct documentation, establishes record system, and maintains all laboratory records, reports, statistics, logs, and files

  • Maintain good relations with patient, medical staff, and other departments as well as other hospitals that use services

  • Attend meetings hospital wide as directed

  • Prepare work schedules, assign personnel, evaluate work performance and make recommendations for personnel actions as needed

  • Perform the duties of medical technologist, including tests and procedures on patients of all age groups: premature infants, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young, middle and older adults

  • Perform surveys and does comparative analyses of work units; may participate in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects, and recommends as is appropriate

  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops

  • Coordinate internal resources and monitor milestones to achieve service expectations

  • Assist the Laboratory Director (or designee) with laboratory strategic planning and implementation

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • California Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist

  • Proven managerial skills

  • Good oral and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree

  • 5 years Medical technology experience
