We are seeking a Special Procedures Nurse (RN) who will perform a wide variety of nursing functions in the Special Procedures Lab. Demonstrates proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient population. Provides assistance to physicians in monitoring patients, and operates and maintains all equipment utilized in the CPL.

In this position you will:

  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, safety, and infection control standards

  • Provide direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care

  • Monitor medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patients' comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress

  • Assist physicians/medical staff with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care

  • Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards

  • Assist attending physicians, patients, and families as needed in times of stress or crisis

  • Monitor and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records

  • Maintain all required reports, records, statistics, etc.

  • Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment

  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops

  • Act as patient educator prior to procedure to explain procedure and answer questions; explains steps during the actual procedure

  • Assist physician in administering medicines as required

  • Prepare, hangs, monitors and discontinues I.V. fluids

  • Cooperate with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies

  • Check prescription, diagnosis, chart, patient identification, etc.

  • Prioritize work and provides prompt and efficient service

  • Keep a log of all patients tested

  • Set up, operates, and maintains the physiological pressure monitoring devices necessary for the duration of the surgical procedure

  • Prepare rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment; cleans rooms between procedures

  • Drape patients for surgical procedures

  • Attend meetings as required

  • The following job accountabilities may be reassigned:

  • Assist in inventory control and ordering supplies

  • Develop film through automatic processing

  • Open sterile supplies and sets up for procedures


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association

  • If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross-CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, this will be accepted until card expiration date

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

  • California Licensed Registered Nurse

  • Sufficient clinical experience in medical and surgical nursing

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • One (1) year of Special procedures lab experience

  • Critical care background
