We are seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner - NICU who will provide respiratory therapy to neonates as ordered by physicians, according to established standards and practices.
In this position you will:
Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, infection control, and patient/customer safety standards.
Set up equipment, oxygen hood, High Flow nasal Cannula and nasal CPAP. Administer respiratory treatment as ordered by the physician; charts treatment, response, and progress.
Provide and monitor conventional ventilation as well as High Frequency ventilatory support to the premature infant in the NICU by protocol.
Perform endotracheal intubation on the neonate.
Respond to L&D for C-sections and deliveries.
Perform arterial and capillary blood gases on infants in the NICU and Emergency Dept.
Participate in intra and inter hospital transports of sick neonates.
Monitor environmental control systems and patients on continuous ventilation.
Perform nasotracheal and tracheal suctioning.
Observe patients, checks equipment, and make changes as necessary during patient rounds.
Provide advanced patient management, such as intra hospital transport with High Frequency Ventilator, and insertion of percutaneous arterial lines in the NICU.
Provide quality control and maintenance on the blood gas machine located in the NICU.
Stock and maintain equipment needed to provide respiratory support to patients in the NICU.
Administer surfactant to patients in the NICU.
Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Maintain professional growth and development.
Provide patient care to adult population as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate of a program for Respiratory Therapy.
RRT required for all new grad Respiratory Therapist applicants hired on or after 1/1/15. Note, Respiratory Therapists credentialed prior to 1/1/15 are grandfathered as CRTs.
Licensed in Respiratory Care in the State of California.
Current BLS-HCP – Basic Life Support - for Healthcare Providers American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer accepted on hire until card expiration date.
PALS within 6 months of hire.
ACLS within 6 months of hire.
Current NRP provider.
Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire.
Neonatal intubation certification.
Knowledge of tests, therapeutics, disease processes and medical terminology.
Administration of surfactant, as appropriate.
High frequency ventilation, as appropriate.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Current NBRC RRT Credential / NPS RRT is preferred for all therapists.
3 years recent work experience.
