Providence Health & Services Registrar in Mission Hills, California

Description:

Providence is calling a Registrar, (Part Time/Variable Shift) to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking a Registrar who is responsible for securing appropriate patient account reimbursement by obtaining complex demographic, insurance and medical information and ensuring this is documented timely and accurately.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Create a consistent and exceptional patient experience throughout the patient interview process

  • Assess patient ability to complete the admission process prior to receiving services or going to their hospital rooms. In some instances, may require bedside registration

  • Alert clinical staff if patients need immediate attention

  • Ensure patients are registered in a timely manner, ensuring accounts are complete, compliant, and billable and do not require rework or intervention

  • Provide armbands in a timely manner and verifies all information on the armband with patient to ensure accuracy

  • Request, collect and document co-pays from patients effectively and efficiently within EMTALA guidelines where applies

  • Escort and/or direct patient appropriately once registration completed

  • Secure patient's valuables in accordance with PH&S procedures, providing appropriate validation documentation and storing valuables in safe as needed. Return valuables to patients at discharge and complete valuables log

  • Ensure order entry tasks are completed timely and accurately

  • Process in-house patient work queues timely and accurately

  • Ensure all relevant documentation is scanned timely and accurately

  • For worker comp/labor and industries patients, ensure forms are filled in promptly and accurately and follow through with patients for signature and completion

  • Present ABN’s and ensure signatures are obtained

  • Ensure all computer system entries are completed accurately and timely

  • Maintain accurate, clear, concise, and complete account notes and other relevant information

  • Closely adhere to set schedules and handle time standards

  • Promote PH&S as a premier service organization by treating customers with compassion and respect

  • Identify, resolve and escalate major issues and service failures that impede success

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient demographic, medical, and financial information, ensuring proper handling and disposal of confidential documents and adherence to HIPAA

  • Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements as well as PH&S policies and procedures in all aspects of job performance

  • Act as backup to the Information desk as needed at your facility

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year minimum experience in customer service or healthcare registration

  • A track record in organizing and planning experience

  • Demonstrate service excellence with patients, families, sponsors, caregivers and team members

  • Proven effective and respectful face-to-face, telephone and interpersonal communication skills

  • Proven sound judgment and ability to work within delegated authorities

  • Demonstrate ability to resolve and escalate issues

  • Proven excellent attention to detail with a focus on quality

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment in a positive and professional manner

  • Demonstrate ability to effectively manage time and achieve results in a fast paced environment

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and utilizes electronic and automated work tools (e.g., online access tools to payers, work drivers)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations

  • Demonstrate ability to perform in alignment with company mission and values

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively with interruptions

  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • College level coursework, particularly Medical Terminology or Medical Assistant coursework

  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS)

  • Registrar and third party payor experience

  • Demonstrate knowledge of CPT and ICD coding and medical terminology

  • Basic knowledge of insurance and managed care payors, healthcare registration, Medicare Secondary Payor, EMTALA and ABN
