Providence Health & Services Perioperative RN - First Assistant (RNFA) in Mission Hills, California
Providence is calling a Perioperative RN, First Assistant (RNFA) - Surgery (Full time/Variable shift) to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills , CA.
We are seeking a Perioperative RN, First Assistant (RNFA) - Surgery who will provide surgical first assistant, scrub, and/or circulating nurse services in the operating room during surgical procedures, and assist surgical team as needed in any other capacity according to established procedures. Participate in the daily activities of the department as an active team member. Demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient population (e.g., infants, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics), and participates in related continuing education. In additional to RNFA duties, is responsible for assigned surgical specialty area.
In this position you will:
Assist assigned personnel in assuring doctors preferences are readily available
Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies
Cooperate with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies
Provide direct patient care, assesses patient's condition, develops individualized plan of care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required, and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care
Prepare patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment, room set-up, positioning and prepping patient
Monitor medical condition of patients and report changes to appropriate personnel
Demonstrate sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress
Assist surgeons with procedures and other processes related to direct patient care, retracting tissues, hemostasis, handling suture/needle material, and closing skin incisions in accordance with hospital standards
Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards
Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintain all required reports, records, statistics
Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment
Inspect area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, and takes corrective action when violations occur
Assist surgical team during operative procedures
Function under surgeons direction as surgical assistant. Assist surgeon during major general and subspecialty surgical procedures
Perform emergency life saving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar catastrophe
Maintain personal RNFA file with current required information and assures annual surgeon evaluations are completed as required
Maintain and monitor surgical asepsis. Maintain the surgical "neutral zone" for passing of surgical sharps
Participate in unit/hospital quality improvement activities
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Specifically attend at least one workshop/in-service specific to specialty and provides information to unit staff
Attend meetings as required
Function as a circulating Perioperative RN as requested
Manage and coordinate specialty area; directs, teaches, and supervise functions and activities; interpret policies, procedures, standards, and regulations as appropriate
Required qualifications for this position include:
Completion of a CCI (Competency and Credentialing Institute) recognized/approved formal RNFA Program
CNOR or APRN
CRNFA within two years of completion of RNFA program (Required at PHC; Preferred at PSJ)
BLS for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association. NOTE: If employee/applicant has certification by the American Red Cross-CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, this will be accepted until card expiration date
ACLS required for RN's working in ICU, ED, Urgent Care, Telemetry, PACU, GI Lab, Cardiac Physiology Lab, Cardiac Rehab, and Diagnostic Imaging. New graduate nurses in ICU have one year from date of hire to complete this requirement. New graduates in the ED must complete ACLS training prior to the end of orientation (16 weeks). Employees transferring into areas that require ACLS must complete the requirement within 180 days
PALS required within 180 days of hire/transfer for nurses in ED, Urgent Care, PARC, PACU, Radiology, and Pediatrics (PHCMC). New graduate nurses in ED must complete this requirement within 1 year of hire date
NRP required upon hire for licensed staff in L&D, NICU, Nursery, Special Care Nursery. NRP required within 90 days from date of hire/transfer for licensed staff in Postpartum. New graduates for L&D and Postpartum have 90 days from date of hire/transfer to complete this requirement
Current California Licensed Registered Nurse
Recent clinical experience in the operating room
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Trauma and robotic training
Experience in neurosurgery, orthopedics and vascular
1 year experience in OR
