We are seeking a Dietetic Technician who will be function as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team through participation in the screening of patients/residents to identify those at nutritional risk. Assists patients on modified diets with menu selections, corrects, edits, and tallies menus. Performs nutritional assessment, reassessment, and education for patients/residents at low to potential nutritional risk as directed by the Clinical Dietitian.
In this position you will:
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, and infection control standards.
Demonstrate ability to tailor treatment based on unique requirements of patients' age and developmental needs. Exhibits knowledge of patients' developmental needs and demonstrates skills necessary to deliver patient care to that population.
Screen patients per department procedure, assigning a Level of Care number.
Refer nutritionally compromised and at risk patients/residents to Clinical Dietitian. Assists the Dietitian in providing nutrition care to patients/residents so that all receive adequate nutrition care.
Assess patient/resident nutritional status according to department, hospital and regulatory agency standards of care in determining appropriate nutritional care plan.
Calculate and document oral calorie counts per departmental procedure.
Educate and counsels low to potential risk patients/residents on special diets as directed by the Clinical Dietitian to guide them in following nutritional information.
Document recommendations made and nutrition care provided in medical records or an appropriate kardex to communicate to other health care professionals.
Review medical records and provides appropriate information to Clinical Dietitian.
May distribute and collect patient satisfaction surveys.
Maintain nutrition knowledge base through continuing education to promote application of current research information.
Perform assigned duties (e.g., in-services, quality assurance monitoring, special functions) to enhance departmental quality and efficiency.
Follow established guidelines and uses appropriate food service communication procedures for any necessary nutritional intervention (e.g., fortify food, supplement) to ensure consistency.
Assume supervisory and Diet Office duties when necessary to assure adequate office coverage and food service quality.
Maintain professional status through continuing education per the registration standards administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Graduate of a dietetic technician program or Bachelor's Degree.
Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association registered or registry-eligible (must pass exam within 6 months of hire) as a Dietetic Technician, Registered.
Six (6) months food service experience or school supervised student work program.
Possess general experience of word processing equipment.
Knowledge of foods and nutrition.
Familiarity with medical terms related to nutrition.
Knowledge of word processing equipment.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Supervisory experience.
