Providence is calling a Clinical Specialty Nurse (RN) Facey Endoscopy Center (Full time/Day Shift) to our Providence Facey Medical Foundation in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking a Clinical Specialty Nurse (RN) Facey Endoscopy Center who will provide professional patient care for all patients following established standards and practices. Serve as a role model for Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants and LVNs by providing leadership which fosters positive attitudes and change, as well as supports management policies and procedures. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. Assist in the organization and daily function of the procedure room in accordance with established federal, state and accreditation standards and facility policies and procedures. Assist in overseeing patient care activities in the pre-procedure, procedure and recovery areas and maintains a high standard of safety for the patient and other staff members.

Adult: 18 to 64 years.

Geriatric: 65 years and above.

In this position you will:

  • Perform job functions timely and efficiently utilizing knowledge of advanced nursing principles

  • Deliver upon the service expectations of both our patients and fellow staff members by listening to their needs; engaging in positive interactions; and following through on promises made in a thoughtful, efficient, timely and courteous manner so that their total outcome is better than expected

  • Respect the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients

  • Work in a safe manner, adhering to general safety precautions and standards.

  • Perform basic patient care skills including, but not limited to, monitoring of vital signs, ECG and pulse oximetry, administering IV, IM and Sub-Q and oral medications, cleaning of instruments with cold sterilization, taking patient histories, giving aftercare instructions, assisting with procedures, utilizing sterile technique, performing catheterizations and accounting for medications and narcotics

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal direction, adjusting to changes in workload acuity

  • Schedule patients for gastroenterology consultations and procedures

  • Provide pre and post procedures and prepares information for patients regarding care plans.

  • Establish an IV line and administers medications as written by physician

  • Perform pre-procedure assessment on all patients undergoing endoscopic examination, assesses equipment/supply needs, prepares the procedure room, ensures availability of needed supplies and equipment and in proper and safe Assist the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures

  • Document actions and interventions, outcomes and responses of patients to treatment

  • Provide accurate, complete, legible and timely documentation of all nursing procedures in the medical record.

  • Demonstrate effective nursing judgment and a thorough knowledge of nursing procedures and practices

  • Communicate clinically significant information to the physician, including but not limited to, abnormal test results, patient concerns and changes in the patient’s condition

  • Follow correct procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous infectious waste

  • Perform daily and weekly environmental cleaning and equipment quality control and maintenance

  • Order and maintain current inventories of medication and supplies

  • Check for outdated medication on a monthly basis

  • Comply with all application infection control and safety procedures

  • Assist with the development of policies and procedures related to function of the department

  • Perform quality improvement activities for department. Participates in clinical trials studies

  • Administer moderate sedation, under the supervision of the surgeon, as the Sedation RN

  • Provide safe medication administration

  • Keep procedure rooms clean, tidy, free of soiled equipment and supplies, and properly stocked

  • Assure all equipment is functioning before use and removes any malfunctioning equipment

  • Demonstrate skill in appropriate use of instruments and equipment

  • Wear appropriate attire

  • Demonstrate awareness of current state, federal and local laws governing the delivery of care

  • Use appropriate reporting mechanisms as required by state laws

  • Respect the dignity, confidentiality and privacy of patients

  • Obtain appropriate authorizations and consents for treatment

  • Identify and report suspected child, spousal/partner, and elder abuse per protocol

  • Provide open and timely communication with patients, families and their significant others

  • Provide sufficient information to allow patients and their significant others to participate in the patient’s care

  • Provide educational resources to the patient/family as appropriate

  • Utilize translation services when needed

  • Utilize appropriate services when needed to communicate with employees and patients with speech and hearing disorders

  • Demonstrate commitment to education and sharing of knowledge

  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel to the office

  • Obtain ongoing education consistent with level and area of practice

  • Maintain current American Hearth Association BLS for Health Care Providers and other appropriate licensure/certifications

  • Participate regularly in Quality Improvement audits and activities


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate of a recognized Registered Nursing program

  • Current California RN license

  • ACLS

  • American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers

  • 2 years RN experience

  • 1 year RN experience in a gastroenterology lab or PACU

  • Verified skill sets defined by department usage

  • Knowledge of surgery scheduling, IV medication protocol, triage, and patient education/assessment skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • SGNA certification

  • 2 years Ambulatory/hospital experience with references
