Providence is calling a Clinical Manager, Prescription Refill Department Operations (Full time/Day shift) to the Providence Facey Medical Foundation in Mission Hills, CA.

We are seeking a Clinical Manager, Prescription Refill Department Operations who will oversee the daily operations of the Prescription Refill Department. The Manager is responsible for the clinical and operational oversight of Prescription Refill Department activities and staff and the Prior Authorization Team. This position will assist Facey Medical Group in creating systems to accomplish healthcare delivery that is effective, efficient, equitable, safe, timely and patient-centered. The Manager ensures patient safety through monitoring medication requests, adhering to approved policy guidelines and maintain accordance with state and federal medication governance laws and standards. In addition, the Manager ensures the quality and integrity of the patient's medical record regarding medication accuracy through monitoring and quality assurance of electronic health record system and other relevant data platforms. Works in collaboration with local and regional pharmacy leadership to share best practices and align department protocols with the highest standards of excellence. Hire and retain qualified staff and ensure new caregivers are trained and well oriented to perform their roles.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage the Prescription Refill Department for Facey Medical Group in accordance with strategic and operational goals and medication regulatory laws and guidelines defined by all governing bodies including state, federal and pharmacy governance

  • Provide clinical oversight of the Prescription Refill Department and Certified Pharmacy Technicians with an emphasis on medication monitoring and safety

  • Collaborate with Clinical Pharmacy Leadership for department program planning to align with organizational goals and assure overall operational effectiveness

  • Develop and implement clinical and operational department policies and procedures

  • Work closely with the clinical pharmacy, operations and physician leadership to improve quality and operational efficiency of the Prescription Refill department and to advance Facey Medical Group initiatives

  • Understand retail pharmacy dispensing and laws and serves as the expert resource to communicate all medication regulatory changes and updates to providers and leadership

  • Contribute to and supports an atmosphere of effective teamwork

  • Hire and retain qualified staff; ensure new caregivers are oriented to their department and well trained for their jobs

  • Identify, investigate and resolve staff and service-related concerns, questions and suggestions

  • Give timely and constructive feedback on performance; documents all corrective counseling

  • Responsible for maintaining and delivering Prescription Refill Department reports including productivity, quality, safety and system utilization to demonstrate success of Prescription Refill Department programs

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of management

  • Participate in Facey’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (P&T); and other committees or meetings relevant to the functions of pharmacy services

  • Use, protect, and disclose Facey’s patients protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

  • Perform QA for prior authorization requests to evaluate for accuracy and efficient resolution

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings for members based on preferred formulary options and makes recommendations for therapeutic interchanges

Successfully complete Environment of Care modules in the required timeframes and participate in fire drills and emergency exercises. May label, transport and store hazardous waste as described in annual training

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by ACPE

  • Current valid California Pharmacist license

  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers

  • 3 years supervision/management experience

  • 5 years experience as a pharmacist in either an ambulatory care setting or retail pharmacy setting

  • Strong interpersonal, decision making and verbal/written communication skills to establish effective working relationships with management, practitioners, and staff

  • Demonstrated management and administrative abilities required

  • Demonstrated appreciation of team dynamics, motivation and coaching for successful team development is required

  • Comprehensive clinical pharmacy and disease state knowledge using the most up-to-date evidence-based guidelines with a particular emphasis on medication monitoring and safety

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple, concurrent projects for completion in a thorough and timely manner

  • Knowledge of all Microsoft software

  • Experience with electronic medical records and electronic prescribing

  • Knowledge and understanding of pharmacoeconomics

  • Knowledge of Retail Pharmacy dispensing and laws

  • Knowledge of medical group insurances and understanding of Accountable Care Organizations, MediCare Part D, HEDIS, CMS Stars, and Value-Based Purchasing

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
